I remember we were told ending the ban on OCS drilling would have a neglible effect on gasoline prices.

Reminds me of when Reagan deregulated natural gas prices and the price of natural gas collapsed.

Now if you ask me I think there should be a provisional tax that keeps a floor under gas prices (as part of a broader energy program). $4 a gallon seems to be a magic number that changes behaviour. But it should probably rise with wage inflation.
