Bob, you continue to repeat that CO2 capture and sequestration are technologies that do not exist and Obama is a fool to support them.

In fact, CO2 capture and sequestration has been an active area of research for the past 20 years under both R and D administrations. Many different forms of capture and sequestration have been developed and successfuly tested. An existing pilot CO2 capture and sequestration plant is fully operational in Germany, another being built in Norway.

All Obama has proposed is to continue this research and increase funding with the goal of building it at a commercial scale. We are especially lucky in the US as many coal fired plants sit near coal bed where NG recovery can be enhanced through CO2 sequestration.

Like solar cells, hyrbid engines, nuclear power, this is a technology that if we commercialized, the whole world would be banging at our door trying to license and buy.

If you're interested in learning more about this area, here are some links.

Well, being the weekend, and a little politics being allowable,

I expect that clean coal is not "ready" when Republicans propose it, but pretty much the same technology will be acceptable when Democrats propose it. ;-)

Maybe a few sequesterization experiments and showpieces, and the rest based on today's "clean coal" technology.

I expect something similar with offshore drilling - the royalty money, other tax money (on those oil companies) and high paying union and steel worker jobs will be seriously tempting. Of course key areas will be 'preserved'.

I don't know if this will extend as far as nuclear power, but it could, as part of some carbon tax deal. That might take a few years.

The Democrats long term ticket for dominance is getting economic growth happening as soon as possible, so I expect they will say yes to much of what they were sawing no to the past 8 years.
