Americans have taken care of the downtrodden since it's inception. We don't need Democrats with holier-than-thou attitudes preaching to us. Obama represents suppression of Americans' personal freedoms - if you're willing to follow a Jim Jones type figure into the belly of the beast called socialism, don't try to drag freedom-loving citizens along with you.

I feel it is my moral and ethical respnsibility to help people when and where I can.

Go for it.

With your own money.

We will do likewise, as we see fit, with our own money.

The system you say is immoral has pulled America into the position of the richest country in the world. Our GDP is second to none. All Americans are better off since the 1900's, thanks in part to the entrepreneurs who took risk that you call robber barons. But mainly because a capitalist system is in place to allow competition and a free market. Granted this has been diluted over the years and has given us a more and more of a socialist bent. This is what has held us back, not propelled us.

Koan

What specifically do you do on a daily basis to support your philosophy?

And, no writing on SI doesn't count.

As you wrote----

"When unions were strengthened during New Deal in the 30's, they protected the working man and allowed for the rise of a large middle class. And the country prospered. And so the 50's and 60's, when we had a large middle class people did the best ever."

Look at what you wrote------------what happened to World War II and its impact on America, Europe and the world which was in between the 30's and the 50's and 60's?

I submit that WWII had a greater impact than the New Deal in the 1930's on the country prospering in the 50's and 60's.

When Unions were strenghened during the 1930's gradually they became the owner of the country store for the coal miners of Va. W.Va. Kentucky, Penns. and likely the other coal states such as Illinois.

The old song "I owe my soul to the company store was not just about the company that owned the country store it was about the unions also----owing their soul to the unions."

This was socialism and this is what Obama wants to return the whole nation to with the Government being the Country Store and the Union---mj
