We tried to remain very calm. It was very difficult for her and we didn't want to scare her away.

She said Powell voiced all the things we'd been saying to her for weeks and she just had no more questions. She also is having reactions to what she's hearing from some of the RWers she knows or reads about. Their answers are emotional, sometimes ugly, and sometimes extreme. She hates the direction of the campaign, the evangelical shift, she dislikes Palin, and interestingly, what she found most credible in Powell's position was the need for a generational shift. She wants the US to show a definite turn from Bush to the world.

I hope a lot of people really listen to what Powell says. It was so well thought out and presented. He did not come lightly to the decision and it showed. I was suprised that people saw him as being awful to McCain. We thought he did a terrific job separating his affection for him, and his decision on what is best for the country at this time.

As for the RW attacks on Powell- gee, surprise. What haven't they attacked that didn't go exactly their way?
