The problem with your argument is that its mostly not rich getting rich at the expense of the poor. Generally productive economic activity helps the whole country, even the poor. That's just the thing that you and the rest of the right refuse to accept no matter what statistics are shown to you. During the past 8 years, the tax cuts have benefited almost exclusively the rich. The middle class and poor hardly benefited at all.....its why people are so angry. The disparity between the rich and the poor in this country is the greatest its been since before the Depression.
