The hardcore base still has this mystical, magical belief that Rovian smear tactics can still work for McCain, even though all they have done is drive UP McCain's negatives the last few weeks. Obama is running on why he thinks his policies are better. McCain and Palin are trying to run on why Obama is bad. That just doesn't cut it in a time of crisis. People want their real fears and concerns addressed, not what a spinmeister makes up to push their buttons.
