He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

Thanks for that story Michael, it made my day. I liked it so much that I sent it to all that I work with. Seems to me that few Americans could read that story without feeling disgusted about "spreading the wealth". It would have been a real kicker if after the customer told the waiter that his tip was going to the bum, he should have encouraged the waiter to work harder, then maybe he could keep some of his tips...<g>
