I guess it has not got through to you thick GOP'ers that the registrations accepted by Supervisors of Elections in every state are only those which have met tests of authenticity. There may have been some bogus registration cards filled out by ACORN workers and by GOP leaning workers, but almost all of these are thrown out after reviews and they never amounted to many in the first place.

The real problem is voter suppression. This is where one party or the other attempts to discourage or block voting. The GOP does this much more effectively than the DEMs.

A second major problem, almost as bad as the first, but not as totally widespread, is manipulation of votes; again in recent elections the GOP has held the lead , by far, in this arena. Many people believe that the GOP managed to win Ohio in 2004; and they have many types of proof of this.

>>I think - and I'm guessing at the logic here - the idea is that first ACORN makes up all these fake registrations. Then a load of Democrat voters show up claiming those are their registrations, and vote accordingly (presumably having already used their proper vote?). And this is then why the Democrats are so against voter ID, because it would foil their cunning plan.<<

TS -

Yes, I think that's what some people believe. The fact that there is extremely scant evidence of actual votes cast by fraudulently registered voters apparently means little.

The explanations that ACORN has offered for the bogus registration apps seems credible enough to me, especially when you consider the fact that they themselves have flagged the questionable registrations, and have fired any of their staff who appear to have filled out the apps fraudulently.

But the Republicans are desperate. They simply can't believe that a majority of Americans are ready to vote against them this year. So they are already seeking other explanations for their upcoming loss. It's as if they're demanding a recount before the polls have opened.

I read one article (on a blog somewhere) questioning whether the so-called massive" voter registration issues and poll results favoring Obama were coincidental, and implying they were not. There was no attempt to actually connect the dots there. I don't blame them for that, though. I tried to find some logical connection between the two, and couldn't come up with anything.

I'm guessing at the logic here

I think the underlying "logic" in all of the complaints is that ACORN registers people who don't register themselves. Those who don't register themselves are the poor and otherwise disenfranchised. So, of course, the registrations obtained will produce votes almost totally for the Democrats. That is unacceptable. But rather than just saying that, we get hot air, rationalization, and conspiracy theory.
