Actually, Greenspan said, "Mr Greenspan said it was the failure to properly price risky mortgage-backed securities that precipitated the crisis."

While I believe it is a true statement, there is a more fundamental cause, which is the liberals requiring that mortgages be let to people who couldn't afford it.

There is nothing inherently risky about mortgage backed securities -- in fact, they were once a safe investment. They became risky ONLY after the liberals started throwing mortgage money at people who were not qualified to receive it.
