At Least 2 Dead In 5 Separate Newark Drive-Bys

Two Others Injured In Series Of Shootings

NEWARK (CBS) ? At least four people have been shot – two fatally – in five separate drive-by-shootings throughout Newark on Friday, CBS 2 has learned.

The shootings all occurred around 2:30 p.m. There are reports that each of the shootings were drive-bys.

Police say a woman was pronounced dead on arrival after being shot at 174 Boyd Street, near the 18th Avenue School, where at least 10 shots were fired.

The other deceased victim was also pronounced dead on arrival at 22 Ridgewood Ave.

Police say in another shooting, a teenager was shot in the ribs on Irvine Turner Boulevard near the Queen of Angels School. That victim is believed to be in critical condition at UMDNJ.

In the fourth shooting, a man was shot in the leg at 234 Pacific St., outside an auto body shop.

According to a source, police are looking for a suspect driving a white 2009 Infiniti SUV with dealer plates that may be connected to at least one of the shootings.

It's not known if the shootings are connected to each other.

No other information on the victims is known yet. Police are conducting a news conference where more information will be revealed.
