Maybe tie taxes to the budget balance...the more out of balance, the higher the tax.

Probably a bad idea.

Assuming it does lower taxes when the budget is doing well (and it it doesn't its even worse, a ratchet to outrageous tax rates), then it will cut taxes in good times, and raises taxes in bad times, a pro-cyclical automatic adjustment that will increases "booms and busts".

If you where going to have something vaguely similar I'd rather it be automatic spending cuts when the balance is bad, but I don't think I could support that either because it would also have a pro-cyclical effect.

Congress and the White House have been failures. PArtisans will point fingers, but that only enables bad government instead of mandating that they do their jobs. Party politics are currently destroying our country because of the support they receive instead of the rightful criticism that they deserve from their own party members.

But, voters have ignored the results and instead support their party instead. Most people are not problem solvers.

Budgets must be balanced except during extreme cases. Our government growth and spending is out of control and the current argument is to tax a small minority which does not address the problem because the additional revenue is too minimal, but it buys votes. The budget is not being addressed...but somehow, people want to attack those that pay the most instead of criticize the government for irresponsible spending. In fact, we overwhelmingly re-elect these poor performers. That makes absolutely no sense. Which means that to improve our government, we must start to do our jobs first and really value our votes.
