Congress and the White House have been failures.

The whole notion that government was the problem has been disproven. What has been shown is that ineffective government run by those who think their own jobs should go away are the problem.

I agree with many of your sentiments. I believe that qualified people stay out of politics because of the, well, crap that goes with it - finger pointing, credit grabbing, posturing, flipflopping, and ducking of responsibility.

I believe - and have said here for years, mostly prior to 2004 - that the underlying fault is in the two party system, for a wide variety of reasons I won't rehash. It boils down to the fact that the political vetting process eliminates people who don't toe the party line. That's why I believe McCain is such a disappointment - for many years, he did buck that system, but lost his mojo when it mattered most - and thus also lost his soul (and eliminated his main strength).

I am, however, hopeful that Obama will if not break that mold, maybe stretch it a bit. If he wins, we'll see. If McCain wins, maybe he will, too, though it will be harder for him sandwiched between a Democratic Congress and the Palin wing. But, there is a small bit of hope...
