If there are, say, 20 parties what happens to the vote? It took somewhat less than 20 million primary voters to nominate Obama when there are ten times that many adults in the USA. When the parties are small, would an even smaller electorate be able to elect the next President? The other problem is Palin. The only vote she received to possibly be next in line for the presidency was McCain's. Do parties then have to come together to get a majority of electoral votes? What is the difference between that and what we have today? Does the British system work any better? I think vetting is important. The Presidency shouldn't go to Joe or Jane Blow. The job is hard, the road to get there should be hard as well. We've had the relatively easy shoo-in of Bush the nepotism darling and see how far that got us.
