Interesting article. What is now described as "Libertarianism" is philosophically far closer to "Goldwater-style" than to the religious conservative wing of the modern GOP --- which perhaps goes far in explaining why (as the article observes) it's the Mountain West that's in political motion now... more so than the Old South. IMHO, McCain's time was 2000, and it's a deep shame that he was defeated then, for he would have made a superior President to Bush. (However... eight years later he appears adrift, out of useful insights, and most likely past his "use by date".)
