So my top priorities are 1) erase the budget deficit, 2) end Iraq war, 3) finish Afghanistan, 4) alternative energy, 5) Immigration. Obama and Biden have the best chance of making 1-4 of this happen.

How do you figure??

My friend, what is the greatest single item that consumes the Federal Budget (and it isn't the military or Iraq).

It's entitlements. Entitlements account for more than 1/2 of the Federal Budget.

And they are BUSTING STATE AND LOCAL BUDGETS!!

Entitlements that are being doled out to more than just deserving American citizens living in poverty. Entitlements that are provided to illegal immigrants, as well as those who are bilking the system by encouraging people to buy homes they couldn't afford.

Look at case such as California, where illegal immigration is so severely stressing the system that they are running record budget deficits trying to provide services for them:

A Plan B alternative to the governor and Legislative Analyst school budget proposals is in order. A major cost factor in the conduct of school operations relates to the vast number of children of illegal immigrants in our classroom and the special-training dictates for many of those students being taught in their native language -- some 82 languages in San Diego County, 112 languages in Los Angeles County.

My friend, when you have 10% of Mexico living illegally in the US, utilizing healthcare services and receiving educational and other entitlements under false pretense, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan pale in significance.

We've spent $500 Billion in Iraq over the past 5 years. That's $100 Billion per year and presumably an expense that will decrease in coming years as the country stabilizes. We spend $700 Billion PER YEAR importing oil because of the failed policies of both parties to wean us off imported energy. And the cost of that energy may well have been far higher had we not confronted the Islamo-Fascists and their goal of controlling Mid-East oil by overthrowing those regimes (corrupt as they may be).

As you know, I'm all for alternative energy, but I don't want us to cut off our noses to spite our face by focusing on alternatives that are not economically competitive and place and inordinant burden on our economy. I think Picken's Plan makes some economic sense, with regard to converting cars to natural gass. We have vast supplies of the stuff available here and it should be enough to tide us over as we advance renewable fuels (hydrogen, algae based biodesel, and of course, electric hybrid vehicles).

Illegal immigration is a fair more onerous threat to that budget deficit you're concerned about than any of the issues you find. We need legal temporary worker status, with all benefits paid via employer benefits and exemption from paying FICA so we're not on the hook to pay them social security benefits (which we now).

You should be more than agreeable with this because it will cause employers to utilize all available INDIGENOUS labor prior reaching out for foreign workers. And it will prevent the American taxpayer from having to subsidize Mexico's labor and entitlement markets.
