I had HIGH hopes for Reagan because he made such a Big Deal about how big our DEFICIT was in 1980....Our deficit was about $1 Trillion when he went into office. When he left office it was about $3 Trillion.

The Democratic controlled House and Senate created that deficit by going on a spending free-for-all in spite of or to spite Reagan. That is pretty much common knowledge. Despite that though, Reagan broke the USSR that gave us a peace dividend that Bush Sr. and Clinton were able to use to get the budget back to surplus.
