Perhaps I'm not making my point terribly well because I'm busy with other things today. But my point, briefly put, is that globalization does serious damage, without this economic downturn to certain sectors of the working class. They are mobilizable on that basis. Wrap that with the culture wars of "real" Americans, and pour in this upcoming serious economic downturn and you have almost all the ingredients for a serious political movement. It would be the form of populism that's most identified with nativisim. At least that's my guess.
