Those whose function is to influence others on important matters should be held to a high standard of disclosure. Investment firms are required to disclose their holdings in industry and company reports. Every upgrade or downgrade is accompanied by such disclosures, usually as a footnote on the last page. Would it be unreasonable to require journalists to disclose their party affiliation and whether they have voted for a particular candidate they are covering?
