Palin was an unmitigated disaster for the Republican ticket.

You are clueless. She makes O look stupid. You will get to see what this moron creates, which is nothing. I hope you are happy.

Disagree.
Palin drew massive crowds while campaigning. Her debate with Biden had fantastic ratings and not because people wanted to see Slow Joe. The Republican convention ratings were massive because of Palin - her fantastic convention speech was watched by more people than most (all?) previous top of the ticket speeches.

The mainstream media was going to have knives out for any VP selection from McCain. They expected it to be Romney and planned to paint him as "the next <evil> Dick Chaney"

Clearly the Couric interview was a clearly a set up-a cleverly baited trap. I blame her campaign managers. They should have built her up slowly starting with friendly interviews and they gradually allowing progressively more hostile interviewers.

<Palin’s interview with Couric, where Palin came across—even to many diehard conservatives—as utterly clueless.>

I assume that Palin will be better managed in any future campaign. She is our only chance so you had better learn to like her-or at least live with her. She is the only one with a Reagan type personality that can rise above all the leftist press.

She's no wimp. As proved by this election, wimpish nice guy Republicans get slaughtered every time.

Without Palin, McCain wouldn't have gotten 37% of the popular vote. The only people who really like McCain are liberals ... because he's such a great loser.

Palin was an unmitigated disaster for the Republican ticket.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone on the thread to make Palin the reason that McCain lost this election.

I think her call to the VP candidacy went something like this:

McCain - Hi Sarah, we need you in Minnesota next week. Really, really bad.

Palin - Okay John, I will run with you as VP if you agree to drilling in ANWR.

McCain - Sorry Sarah, can't do that. I need to get the support of the independents and middle democrats.

Palin - Okay, how about letting me go on the Katy Couric Show then?

McCain - Done. We'll see you in Minneapolis.

When the financial crisis became the central issue in the campaign shortly thereafter, it placed a premium on seriousness

Which is why we haven't heard much from Joe Biden in the last 30 days?

On the contrary, Palin was a net plus for the Republican ticket. She turned out the base; she turned out the money; she turned out the attention. Before Palin, McCain couldn't even get coverage.

You still don't get it. It was the energy and excitement generated by Sarah Palin - she routinely got crowds of 20 or 40 thousand on campaign stops - that made her such a threat. That was why the MSM set out to destroy her.

Palin was an unmitigated disaster for the Republican ticket.

Bill Kristol said last night that she was a slight plus, based on exit polling. Most VP candidates mean nothing at all. The real disaster here is Biden. God help us if Obama dies.
