Bubba on 102.5 had a great show this morning, they were in a celebratory mood. Lot of rednecks calling in saying how glad they are that Obama won.

Today is a day to NOT listen to the radio, dear ML!! Or read the RW threads. Let them grieve and blame the media and each other and of course, the liberals, in private.

O's speech was carefully crafted. He has perfect pitch, imo. In the wake of an enormous victory, rather than partisan celebrating, he intentionally reminded us that there is nothing easy about the next few years and he enlisted everyone- it was very inclusive.

My husband, a real cynic, believes he has the potential to be a truly great president.

Did you notice HOPE became almost a pejorative during this campaign? As if hope were something only the naive and simple would feel.

Maybe optimism is a better word, since it isn't based as much on feelings as hope. But whatever it is, it beats despair. And I am enjoying it this morning! And for the person who posted that Obama's speech had nothing substantive in it, there is a wonderfully apropos quote from Saint-Exupery

"If you want to build a ship, don't herd people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea."

Obama has us looking toward the horizon again.

Hi Suma. I share your dismay at the stubborn nastiness of the hard right. Some of them will never change; they're simply going to find something to fear, and then to hate, no matter what.

There is hope for many of them, however. For those who are simply spongebrains who absorb their emotions and views from listening to the chronic haters or the talking heads that feed on negative emotions, reality will, in time, open up a new understanding for them.

So if we can start building a better America and if we can enlist more and more people willing to do the right thing then we'll have the satisfaction of watching the "common wisdoms" of that minority group begin to evaporate.

Sometimes it's a slow process but reality is a powerful river whose waters will always crest the highest dam.

In the meantime, when you hear such nonsense, just smile and remark that the American public doesn't share that fear and that it opted to go a different direction. FINALLY! Ed
