I am a big fan of andrew sullivan and he is eloquent about this subject as are you. Andrew once said that he couldnt believe americans were against monogamy for gay people after bashing them all those years for being promiscous and HIV prone. Ya think they would be for lasting relationships and passing property within a relationship.
I cant make you feel better. Maybe suffice it to say that a year ago i would have voted against gay marriage and today i would vote for it. My kids beat the hell out of me until i saw the light. They know how much i love my four grandkids and kept asking me the question if they were gay would i love them any less. Actually if anything i would probably love them more because they would need a little more support.

>>as to Obama meaning anything to gays and lesbians... again time will tell. I have no hope at the moment.<<

I'm not sure.

Whatever else he is, Obama is a very smart pol, and it is just possible that he calculated that this was a battle he couldn't afford to fight during this election. Next time round will be another matter.

It's a battle that will be won sooner or later. - my daughter's generation (she's 15) are genuinely puzzled that it's even an issue. As I said, I think it will be revisited in CA within the next four years, and it will go the other way.

Don't know about the redder states., but I think even they may surprise you.

Very interesting discussion here:
