In terms of Obama and gays - more than one rep pointed out about Clinton running into trouble right away because of 'gays in the military'. It helped to lose seats in '94. If people outside of the south don't realize it, it is very true. So... in that regard, I preferred that Obama, if he 'likes' gays okay, kept things quiet... not let it be an issue. I can handle being a tad 'dissed' if it works to an end.

I think your daughter's generation will change things. It puzzles them, just like not voting for a black person puzzles people in their 20's for the most part. Things do slowly change if we keep at it.

As to Sullivan - he is like a logcabin republican. yes, I am fiscally conservative. But I never have, nor ever could, support a party that I know makes downing gays a part of its overt or 'clandestine' platform. I might as well vote to hang my brother or sister. If I am to work to change a party from within, it would be the party who takes in my breaten but spends too much... far better to work with them to spend less and spend more wisely what is spent, than to ever support bigotry.
