No, I get it. I just fundamentally disagree with you that he's done that.

He's someone who is hated by a considerable number of republicans precisely because he's been calling them on their bigotry since he went over to the US. I don't know for sure, but I suspect that it's been a very painful road at times.

Part of being 'normal' means people accepting that a gay republican isn't unusual.

Refusing to be shunned, calling you fellow party members out as bigots, and if necessary endorsing the other side's candidate is part of that: it is refusing to accept that sexual orientation should be a matter of political consequence.
