Allen,

I don't see the real issue here. You didn't like his stand on this isssue(s) but respected his independence. Aren't there plenty of Republicans who supported Obama whom we can feel the same way about, we respect their independence on this one issue but disagree with them on others? Aren't we, to a degree, chastising the Republicans who are doing the same thing to their own that supported Obama, like Buckley?

As Democrats, Lieberman doesn't need to be rewarded for this but to exclude him from the caucus as some are saying seems a bit like talking out of both sides of our mouth. Seems a bit similar to giving the African American community a pass on the gay civil rights issues. Civil rights are civil rights and should be recognized as such.

The Democratic tent should be big enough to include him. It should be lonely in his corner of the tent but he should be allowed to be included. Isn't Obama saying that the country is big enough for everybody? Or is that just election speak to make us feel good about ourselves?

Neal
