Well, taking a second and third close look at Sarah Palin reveals a quite non-Reaganesque person. Reagan was glib, a great communicator, and was never anti-intellectual.

Like I said, there is a big difference between a gaffe - e.g. saying 57 instead of 47, or saying the Pakistan-Iraq border - and a shocking gap in education and knowledge.

Whether 'populists' like it or not, intellect is a basic - though certainly not singular - requirement for President of the United States. A lack of intellectual curiosity, and an intolerance for intellectuals, is to me a huge hole in anyone's resume for that position.

We can see what 8 years of a intellectually incurious president has done to this nation. We cannot afford any more like that.
