If you think that these two contradict each other, you may not be aware of all the details involved. If there's something you don't understand, you should ask. It's very dangerous to conclude before all facts have been gathered. The world is full of unexploited knowledge. Asking for more knowledge is like asking for more oil in year 1600 AD. Microsoft's problem is, that it's R&D isn't focused and doesn't deliver a lot of results, even though they consume big amounts of money - it's about efficiency, not about using limited resources.
