I always thought it was terribly ironic that a country founded specifically on the rejection of monarchical control, is one of the strongest devotees of a religion which worships a deity who basically rules like a king, handing down dictates that all subjects must follow without question.

And very few people seem to see the irony or the contradiction.

The problem is that "The Religious" aren't running around with a consistent set of principles that actually work for anyone using them. They can't even agree they are Christian when they believe in Christ. Ask a Baptist if an LDS is Christian and they say "No!".

For the rest of us, we want a logical set of principles that are reasonable, measurable, consistent, rational, justified, uniform, secular, and minimal. If only I were Saved, if only I had faith, if only I had the instruction manual for my remote control... The people with the blinking 12:00 on their DVD can pray till the cows come home but God is not going to fix it. A Google search for the model of the player will. But only if they read the manual and not the Bible.
