I think the impression was created that Mac was just winging it, which undercut his arguments on experience and steadiness.

Mac couldn't oppose it, because he was ideologically in line with it.

My local Congressman a Democrat Joe Courtney opposed it and won re-election.

As a matter of fact, all three candidates in that race opposed it. Had he voted for it, I suspect he would have been beaten in the race.

I still think we should have just let AIG fail and take the whole lot with them. Sure, it would have been scary and painful, but in this case the medicine was worse than the disease.
