Religion isn't all that vague, there might be a few borderline cases, but for the most part its clear what is religion and what is not.

Pornography is somewhat in between. The borderline cases and gray areas are much bigger. But still you don't get one group calling "X" pornography, and another group calling "not X" pornography. People might disagree about any X, some saying its porn and others saying its not, but if many see it as porn, you aren't going to see people calling the opposite of it porn.

With civil rights you can get conflicts, and directly opposite views.

OK so you are for same sex civil unions for all. Right?

No so much "for" as "not against". Its not my pet issue. But judicial activism is one of my pet issues. If society wants to recognize these unions I will not oppose the attempt at all. But I don't think it should properly be imposed by the courts based on shifting the supposed meaning of the constitution away from what it actually says. What's needed to make it happen is legislation.
