We discussed many of those things with regard to the Canadian system. At the same time I asked him how he'd feel if his best friend died of strep because his parents had no healthcare. The opinion I left him with was the answer was somewhere in the middle and that it was up to him to figure out his opinion, think of a possible solution and to be able to explain, justify and defend his thought process with facts.

He made a blanket remark that the Canadian system was a failure and didn't work. I challenged him on it and asked him how he knew that? I asked him if he'd ever been to a Canadian facility or talked with a Canadian. What he didn't know is that I agree with much of what he thought BUT I wanted him to think and defend his position with facts. Opinions minus facts are nothing more than repeating the opinions of others without doing the soul searching and research to back them up.
