Today a wise radio talk show host said "the term higher education is the truest oxymoron in America today." <g>

>IMO the younger generation suffers from a serious lack of education in Civics and history of USA during those 4 decades.<

6 million first time voters made the difference on Nov 4. Today I believe one of them revealed to me why they finally took the time to register and vote.

Woman about 30yrs old asked my reaction to the Obama win. When I replied that many of those who voted for him will probably be disappointed, since it's highly unlikely he will be sending checks anytime soon. Her response was: "that was the rumor---I was hoping to receive a check from the government by Christmas but after the election was told that's impossible." She sounded already disillusioned--apparently Obama's mantra of "95% will receive a tax cut" was the motivator for those who had never found a reason to vote in the past.

I suspect I'm a lot older than most folks on this thread,

Hell, he's probably not even the average age for this thread, I'm 56 myself...but I think of myself in the upper middle.

IMO the younger generation suffers from a serious lack of education in Civics and history of USA during those 4 decades.

Long ago leftists in the US figured out that they couldn't get the US to sell out to socialism up front, so began the assault on our educational system by radicals. They did away with corporal punishment and replaced discipline with coddling. Just look at the names on the teachers text books and do some research on the authors. All are 'progressives' (should have called them regressives).

Most families don't take the time at the dinner table or otherwise to discuss events - current and/or the past!

My son is 16 and this election has spurred some interest in him (I'm cultivating him like hell..<g>). At least once a week I ask him what he's been learning, just to make sure his school is concentrating on the right things. He goes to one of the best puplic school districts (Poway) in Ca., so he's yet to come home and tell me anything I find upsetting.

He does have liberal teachers though... but I've given him the tools he needs to stand up to them when he thinks they're wrong and he does too...<g>

The younger generation voted for what they can get from the Federal Government without working.

They are in trouble.

So much for "ask not what your country can do for you but ask what you can do for your country"

It's a heinous thing that this wonderful sentiment has been reversed......

Well, I have to agree with you there. Most folks nowadays simply don't have a full appreciation for our history. So we're doomed to repeat our past mistakes.

I'll tell you what's going on now, though. Bush was so obvious in his lining of the pockets of the wealthy, that the masses rose up and said, "I want some too." Now we have this evil downward spiral, where everyone is looting the Treasury. We've gone from $4 trillion to $10 trillion in national debt under Bush and we're like to reach $1 trillion a year deficits under Obama. That troubles me more than anything else we talk about here on these threads.

The most frequent quote I see on these threads nowadays is the one that says, "When the people of a Democracy find out they can vote themselves a boon, then the end of that Democracy is in sight," or something to that effect.

No truer words were ever spoken. We're paying the piper now folks. If you think it's bad now, just wait a few months. It's about to get a whole lot worse.
