When did unions decide to put all their stock in SUVs when the press is screaming peak oil? And why aren't you asking the other obvious question......how big are the salaries of these mgmt righties? How many have golden parachutes are there at GM? Unions are a key problem in QC. They have limited quality on American vehicles for years. Not only by the physical limitations imposed by unions, but by limiting the extent to which industrial robots can be employed to do jobs not only more efficiently, but better, than humans can. I could care less about management salaries. They really are almost immaterial related to the other costs. I don't like golden parachutes, but they're not the problem. My recollection is that Caddillac and Ford are both building hybrid SUVs. The truth is that the car companies are building cars the consumer wants, but for the fact the wheels fall off at 60,000 miles.Unions may be part of the problem but the majority of the control is with mgmt and they have bungled every opportunity offered to them over past 20 years. For an example, even with some improvement, GM's cars couldn't get any uglier if they tried. I don't like the appearance of most GM cars, but there are many who would argue with you on this. I can certainly point to some Toyotas that look like crap. Look at the Camry for gods sake. Or that god-awful FJ Cruiser (or whatever it is). Detroit doesn't have a lock on ugly assed cars, by a longshot. The truth is people don't want GM cars because they fall apart before they're paid for. I haven't bought an American made car since '81 for that very reason.
