I could care less about management salaries. They really are almost immaterial related to the other costs. I don't like golden parachutes, but they're not the problem. My recollection is that Caddillac and Ford are both building hybrid SUVs.

Yes, they're buying hybrid engines from Toyota. They are doing that in an effort to play catch up. How much you want to bet they lose money every time they sell one of those hybrids?

The truth is that the car companies are building cars the consumer wants, but for the fact the wheels fall off at 60,000 miles.

That's what all car companies do. Toyota and Honda build SUVs just like GM and Ford but guess what, their SUVs get much better gas mileage. Was it the unions that required GM and F to build SUVs with MPG than it is lower than foreign SUVs?

Besides, corporations have marketing depts that help shape consumer demand. For decades the American auto makers have pushed larger cars when the rest of the world's cars were getting smaller. Why? Because it was easier making a profit with larger cars. Its hideous the games American auto makers have played and now its caught up with them.

The truth is people don't want GM cars because they fall apart before they're paid for. I haven't bought an American made car since '81 for that very reason.

Finally, we are in agreement.
