The only acceptable backup to me is imaging. It allows me to restore my complete operating system disk in case of failure in about ten minutes. I have backups of my data on another disk as well and I back up important personal stuff to dvd's. I don't think there is one method better than another. Everyone's needs are different. For traders, obviously you need to back up your financial data daily. I also have backups of my email setup and firefox browser profile done with a program called MozBackup. Xp has a backup program built in that lets you transfer settings of major programs if you get a new disk. You back your stuff up to a dvd or some other disk, install the os on the new disk, install the programs and then restore your settings. I'm shopping for a new usb flash drive that I heard about a few days ago for portable storage. Somebody told me there was a 32 gig out there on sale a few days ago for $20 (after rebate). Anyone run across it, please let me know. I can store a complete disk image on it plus most of my personal data.
