Price Run-up

Some 50,000 unit trades at 9 1/2 bumped the price up.

Here is an article about MSFT arm twisting.
This is what NOVELL is up against. Schmid'ts quote that MSFT didn't have to do it this way but could have used "subtle" methods was a little off base to say the least.

<<Does anyone know why we had a sudden runup in price today ... about 1 hour before the close volume picked up, price up to 9 11/16 ... from a low of 9 today. I didn't see any news that might explain why. Total volume is still pretty low though.>>

They filed an S-8 today to register (I think) 4 million shares. Its on my watch list with FreeEdgar, got an e-mail today (great service, check it out, www.freeedgar.com).

Also, Novell issued a PR today stating the article that claimed they were not able to remotely patch Y2K client software FALSE. They have this and have released it.

BP,

Guess you missed my post (#18066) this morning. :^)

This is the time of year for a bounce by badly depressed issues.

Hi BP,

Off hand I would say the move is technical. The charts look absolutely beautiful. There should be plenty of room for it to run up nicely over the next few days. Volume moving up with price is very good.

We're also getting within a month of earnings, so those that want to see if Eric can show us the money may be starting to invest. Also, we are close enough to the end of the quarter that there are bound to be folks at Novell that have a pretty good idea of what the numbers will look like. Although that kind of information is supposed to be top secret, I've yet to not see a stock move up well ahead of good news. That's part of the reason I'm holding instead of trading right now. If it happens (it may not) there should be a pattern where it starts climbing through resistance for no reason without retesting previous lows. Then again, the S-8 filing mentioned down thread is probably as good an explaination as any. It's about time the folks at Novell are willing to invest in their own company.

I'm using a 30 day free trial with Zacks right now and they send e-mail on analysist up/downgrades. I haven't seen any changes in that area.

This is mostly speculation (opinion) on my part, I don't "know" either. I do tend to feel a lot more cheerful when the price goes up so I won't complain, but making trading decisions is a lot easier with more information.

Regards,

Don
