Fertilizer looks like one of those things tied directly to dropping consumer demand and farmers' ability to get financing. Why do you think it is worth jumping in now? Both seem very iffy.

The problem across most sectors is a real inability to measure future demand and hence revenues and earnings. I am struggling to come up with any sector ideas where that isn't true. I think infrastructure construction may be a sector to play if Obama puts real money there, but even that is still speculative, and the stocks I had singled out have all dropped 20-30% since I started watching them.

At least the pfds pay an unchangeable divvy as long as the issuing company doesn't suspend them.
