C is a real conundrum.

I think a few big hedge funds just keep shorting the debt and the stock while bidding up the swaps so it looks like they are going broke. Easy money.

No, this isn't based on any knowledge or facts and I can't post any links nor will I defend this position. It's just a hunch.

I'd expect GS to be the suitor for C since it's strong enough to integrate everything after the huge writedowns you mentioned. I don't think Washington would let C go to any foreign player that is still strong enough to try.
