Schiff is not a perma-bear. He has been bullish about precious metals, natural resource stocks and trusts, and dividend-paying international stocks that have little or no exposure to the US markets.

Precious metals, esp gold have held up, and it looks like gold is finally getting out of the deleveraging mess that it has gotten into. Schiff says that many of his Intl dividend-paying stocks are now selling at 3-4 times earnings, so there is a good chance that they will recover and do better in the coming years.

The guys who were laughing hysterically at Schiff did so when he mentioned the "lax lending standards" that had led to the housing bubble. So they were laughing because they are bleeping idiots. Not because Schiff was a perma-bear, because he is not.
