But I think labor should earn market rates, not rates that are the product of extortion and strongarm tactics, which is what the UAW amounts to. Why should unskilled laborers in Detroit be paid more than Walmart employees or McDonalds employees who aren't unionized? Because they are more skilled, the labor's intense and hard, and horribly monotonous. Besides, Wal mart doesn't pay a living wage. The answer is that they shouldn't. The UAW membership is grossly overpaid for what they do and as a result their employers are broke. It is fairly simple. These people aren't professionals. They're not CEOs. They''re not entertainers. Their skills are NOT WORTH anywhere near what they're being paid. GM is in trouble because mgmt is grossly overpaid, and they have made bed design, innovative and market decisions......and their cars give poor performance.......year after year after year. They fought mass transist tooth and nail instead of embracing and running with it. They dismantled bus company after bus company in city after city. In general their performance has been anti American, doing with what they thought was best for GM and not America. As a result, they have been losing their American customers and market share for decades. Many Americans don't even consider GM when buying a car.......that's how far the brand has fallen. Think GOP. And to add insult to injury they flew to DC in the luxury of their coporate jets to beg for taxpayer money. That says it all!I would point out, also, that their arrogance in making insane demands is costing OTHER PEOPLE, nonunionized employees, their jobs. For example, car salesmen and other dealership employees. It is pathetic. And the unions need to brought down, stammped out, destroyed, as part of this process. Not one criticism of mgmt....amazing......you're a tool of the rich and the elite. You are not to be trusted.
