Bart,

Money supply is definitely being augmented in a huge manner. But velocity of monetary transactions don't seem to be following through.

And if velocity of financial exchange is drastically collapsing (as seems to be the case) then "physical" money supply has to fill the gap.

That's a component we cannot ignore in determining the potential for inflation. You can have all the money you want, but if no one wants to part with it, or loan it some one else, you have a liquidity trap where money supply augmentation is nothing more than pushing on a string.

I think what is happening is that the deflation of the real estate bubble is showing up on the Fed Balance sheet. When the commercial sector starts to BK next year, it will be impossible to contain in this fashion without a rupture. And the alternative...?
