Who was criticizing Gates before? He had a lot of support from the beginning.

How do you square that support, if it exists, with supporting Obama's plan to precipitously withdraw from Iraq without consideration of the situation on the ground?

Obama won the primaries on the basis that he would withdraw in 16 months. Period, end of story.

Do you think he'll stick with that plan? He seemed to be waffling on it in the general election. Gates surely won't recommend OR support such an incompetent action. So, how do YOU reconcile the opposing views?

I am admittedly biased; Gates is a fine man who could do just about any job he was handed and I've believed that since long before he became SecDef. But it seems to me that if one supports Gates it is a polar opposite to Obama's campaign promises wrt Iraq.
