Where in the world did he get that idea?

He got it from the concept that oil doesn't make you fat. It's the starches.

Lane,

What the....? Where in the world did he get that idea? Or maybe he's somehow repealed the laws of gravity--and calories.

The theory is, that in absence of excess carbohydrates and excess insulin, the body does not get the signal (high insulin) to store the excess in fat. So it is harder to gain weight on high calorie low carb diet then same calorie high carb.

As far as "laws of calories", what gets tricky is that the body is not in a steady state, burning at constant rate. If you are starving, your body starts to shut down and slow down some functions to conserve energy. When protein and fat is plentyful, the metabolism can run at full speed.

It would be interesting if someone researched this. Dr. Eades posted that he has some anecdotal evidence from his patients, who came to him puzzled they are not losing weight on LC diet. When he added their calories, he came up with way excess of 3000 calories. These people were eating very little in terms of carbs, but too much fat and protein calories.

The surprise to Dr. Eades was that these people were not gaining a lot of weight, if the laws of calories were really laws.

He didn't take it further than that, but I guess the idea is while you will not be losing weight on high calorie LC diet, you will not necessarily be gaining like you would on high carb diet.

Dr. Eades will have a new book out on losing those last difficult pounds this spring. I don't know what he is going to say in it, but I think he will mention the need to watch calories (even on LC diet).
