we need to do the surge in afganistan. Split the sunnis from the terrorists. There is no reason that the taliban has to play in international terror. They allowed al quaeda to exist on their soil and they paid. Now we should work for some sort of inclusion of more moderate talabanistas and outflank al quaeda. Join the govt, moderate your most extreme views and ban al quaeda from afganistan. Will it work? not at all sure but it beats refighting the brits and soviets wars.
