I knew about the community reinvestment act, i just expect quotes to come with a link.

Any policy may turn out badly, or have unintended consequences. It's up to those in charge to keep a watchful eye. Bush was warned more than 3 years ago by regulators who wanted to crack down on risky loans.

But as he so often does when warned of an impending crisis, Bush did nothing.

Instead he bowed to the banks who wanted to continue making these loans. The government wasn't forcing the banks to make these risky loans, it was the other way around.
