well you are correct in stating that i have never tried hiring for minimum wage....

i have hired labor for far more than minimum wage because in my business i needed people who spoke english and had the need for workers with mechanical and technical abilities....you don't get that paying 'minimum wage'

however there are plenty of low productivity jobs that do, so which is better....hiring a single worker for $9/hr "minimum wage" or 2 workers for $4.50....

i say the latter....most minimum wage jobs are 'starter jobs' and the more starter jobs you can create and afford, the more people you put on the path to higher wages as they gain experience then have the marketable skills that are worth paying a higher wage

you say the 'only applicants' after 9/11 were illegals?

rubbish

it's true in the low productivity jobs like fast food and food processors, lawn maintenance people, etc.... because minimum wage laws priced workers out of the market on the down side.... when's the last time you've seen a college student working in a fast food? my son did and so did my daughter to make 'extra income' when they were in school...both took jobs 'people won't take today' because the illegals have crowded out the starter job positions.....

and my logic is impeccable

our business success is a result...we didn't get there with 'badly flawed logic'

take *your* badly flawed logic *mandated higher minimum wage* to it's conclusion....if $10/hr. is good, why not $20?

you know the answer and so does everyone else....you will drive business away with the resultant job losses either here to more business friendly states or overseas

not only that, neolib, the minimum wage is so pathetic as to its viability as a "living wage" that businesses don't even bother laying off anymore, so our unemployment rate will probably never get back to the doozies of recessions we had in the 70s and 80s.

A minimum wage worker now typically gets no benefits and might make $320/wk. Not enough to care.
