So is your beef that the committee came to this conclusion too early or too late? On the one hand, you seem to be saying it would've been more useful to know this sooner, but on the other hand, you said the committee made its call before two Qs of negative GDP growth were reported.

I am not really sure what it is they are reporting. Leading indicator of a trailing indicator? It is not reporting on when recession started, even though it is what they call it. Recession already has a definition. Here is Wiki's:

In economics, the term recession is generally used to describe a situation in which a country's GDP, or gross domestic product, shrinks for at least 2 consecutive quarters.[1][2]

They said employment had fallen every month since last December. Maybe if employment had blipped up in April or July they would've decided differently.

You mean....one good month would have neutralized the 11 bad months? Is that how accountants do it?
