GM (the biggest of the three) employs 266,000. That's less than four and a half times more. And the many of GM's employees don't work in the US.

But you have to count vendors, subcontractors, parts suppliers. So the number is much larger.

Its estimated that the auto industry with its suppliers employes nearly 4 million people. Eastman Kodak is to the auto industry what a gas station is to the Pentagon.
