i get mine at trader joe. i also buy irish oat meal, there it is called steel cut oat. you have to cook it the old fashion way, five minutes in boiling water, then simmer for thirty and stir every so often until it gets to your desired thickness. Usually twenty or so minutes.

the oat bran can also be used for cereal but i use it to make bran muffins. If no irish oat meal then i use the oat bran.

i only buy at trader joe because i found at both super markets where i bought flour or oat bran had moths. Get them in the house and it takes cleaning out the whole place to get rid of them. I bought at Super Fresh and it took me several weeks to get of these moths... i switched to Giant store and each time i carefully look the area over before buying. i found several around the packages , pointed out to the manager and decided not to buy there..

trader joes bran oats are sealed in plastic, no chance of moths coming home.

$1/lbs.at the grocery store...organic is $1.69/lbs.

They have a large self serve area with bins that you scoop into bags yourself. Cereals, nuts, dried fruit, flour ect.

I was buying flaxseed online but now I found it next to the oat bran.

buy oat bran?

I have to get it in one pound Quaker Oat Bran Boxes at Safeway. About $5 a box here in the islands. I read that some mainland health food stores carry it in bulk at a very cheap price.
