It's not just Toyota's and Honda's all cars are more reliable now. I had a Caravan that just got oil and filter changes, spark plugs, and tires. I didn't even change the transmission fluid. I traded it in with 110,000 miles and not one problem. There was a recall on the transmission, but it gave me no problem before or after. EV's will have some motor problems, and will have the same problems with suspension, body, electrics, and tires as ICE cars. The S10 EV had a horrible electric and heating system. Maybe typical GM quality I guess.

I don't know for sure. In fact, I'd venture to say a car like the VOLT will have maintenance similar to an ICE, because it has both an electric engine and a gas engine to produce more electricity.

However, ICEs have ongoing yearly maintenance on all the moving parts. EVs don't have that many moving parts in comparison. So it's a pretty good bet, they will have less maintenance. In fact, many EV enthusiasts have claimed they have to maintain their EVs less than their ICEs. That's anecdotal evidence from biased sources, though.

All of this is typical with new industries. You take your best guesses and then you take the risk anyway, because the potential rewards are HUGE.
