While you grand stand with your soap box posts it is hard to resist the urge to note that you are pretty narrow minded on this...labor cost is an issue, but to say that all you have to do is lower it and puff, all is magically well, is to miss the heart of Detroit's troubles. These companies are badly mismanaged at a very real product portfolio level, and have been for decades. You can bring the UAW at the edge of the abyss and get concessions, but fixing a product portfolio and the company image that goes with it is a much harder problem to solve and one the UAW had very little to do with.
